Sophia is turning 2 – it’s a party!!

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Well, let’s hope so anyway.

Let’s just hope the party comes together.  I’m not nearly as motivated as last year to make it such a grand event, but I think that’s okay.  I LOVE birthdays and think that your big day is supposed to be a big deal, but she doesn’t really know it’s her birthday, so as long as she has a good time and feels special at her party, I will be happy.

We’re also skipping presents…sort of.  I was looking around at all the things she has and, at least for the age she is at and will be for the next year, she has plenty of age appropriate toys and probably doesn’t need much more.  She is really into her books right now so we decided to do a book exchange with the kiddos attending her party.  We’ll have each of the bring a wrapped book and everyone gets to leave with a book.  It’s more fun when everyone gets to unwrap something anyway, right?  Plus, I love the idea of her party being more about fun and playing with her little buddies than a giant pile of wrapped gifts.  That idea might just become a theme for our birthday parties as she grows up.

Last year, I started planning Sophia’s birthday party and theme about three six months in advance(I know, I got a little bit excited).  I’m feeling a little behind, but last year was her first birthday, which should be a super big  deal, and this year I’m pregnant, so I don’t feel guilty.  I’m letting the color theme (a.k.a. balloon colors) be determined based on her invitation (below) and we’re just going to make it all about all of Sophia’s favorite things (blueberries, books, etc).

This is the project I created on Shutterfly for Sophia’s 2nd birthday party.  She’s adorable, right?!  :)    (Obviously, I made sure not to include the details plublicly on the blog, but you get the idea.  The finished projects should arrive in my mailbox in the next day or so!)

The picture is just one of many taken fantastic pictures by our friend Nealy in June.

Sophia’s actual birthday is the Monday before her party and we don’t have the day set in stone yet, but I think it will be fun.  Como Zoo has an old fashioned merry-go-round and I recently found out that one Monday a month, they do a day of free rides.  Sophia’s birthday happens to be the free-ride day in August, so that’s on the schedule for sure.  I also got this cute cupcake set on clearance at Barnes and Noble a while back and thought I’d fancy up some muffins for her birthday breakfast.

The best part of the day is that Dan and I will both have the day off and we can make it her special day, whatever we end up doing.  It will be fun to have a big special day together as the three of us shortly before we become the four of us.
