Settling in…

Dan’s going back to work…I’m somewhat devastated. If only paternity leave were as long as maternity leave. I’m happy to have this time at home with the girls, but it just won’t be as much fun as the past ten days have been.
Dan’s been beyond amazing. So supportive and encouraging, so good at making me rest and take care of myself, and so great at just being a daddy. Evelyn has gotten a lot of snuggle time and Sophia’s been in heaven having daddy around all the time – even calling him her “best buddy.” Adorable. They even had a bonfire one morning around 10am, simply because Sophia wanted one.
One of the best things Dan did was to remind me, the night before he went back to work, that I’ve handled four kids before, so I can definitely handle our two. I’ve been relying on that in my head the past two days and it’s definitely been an encouragement.
Everything is easier with two parents than with one…that’s just obvious, but I think we’re doing okay.
Yesterday was mostly about survival. We didn’t go anywhere – just hung around the house. Dan’s mom let me sleep in and took care of Sophia until Evelyn and I wandered out around 9am. It was really nice, but I’ve found in the past that I am in the best place during the day when I wake up to an alarm and get going at an earlier time, something I did today. My mind was in a better place, having had some time to myself to get ready before the girls were up. Today we even met some friends at the mall and the toddlers some fun running around in the play area for a while. Well, until there was some behavioral issues going on with Sophia, but that’s a whole other post…
Sophia has been taking good care of her babies. They often get burped, and she loves wearing a burp cloth on her shoulder while carrying one of them around the house. These days we rarely leave the house without one of them and they are regularly buckled into Evelyn’s car seat, bouncy seat and swing. Yesterday, they began wearing diapers…size 4 Pampers actually. Apparently, baby dolls need diapers that go up to their necks.
(You can’t see it, but there is a baby wrapped up in that tiny blankie)
(Please excuse the crazy hair…)
Sophia is also so interested in “the baby.” She loves to hold her and has even given her a bottle.
I LOVE seeing these two together! They’re so sweet and so far, getting along great. I’m sure that’s something that will come and go as the years go on, but for now, it’s sugary sweet and I like it that way!
