Apples, Pumpkins, Eagles and Monkeys

We had an eventful weekend and lots of good time outside. I have to keep reminding myself to make the most of any time we can be outdoors, since winters in MN can be soooo long. And, apparently, we’re looking at another extra long and snowy winter, so we’re going to get outside every chance we can!
Saturday, we went to the apple orchard. We visited Aamodts Apple Farm, the same orchard we went to last year. Sophia keeps calling it the “Apple church.” :) It was so much fun to watch her run around and check everything out. Here are a few comparison shots from last year – we must have gone earlier in the season because her outfits are definitely very different!
Sophia had a lot of fun, and clearly, so did Evelyn. :)
This was as close to the animals as Sophia was willing to get. She had the chance to feed them some popcorn but was a little scared. Maybe next year…
Whenever we get cute pictures like this one, I get excited to see the girls having fun together next year or the year after. Right now, it’s fun for Sophia to get a little time with just Mommy and Daddy while Evelyn sleeps, but I think {& hope} she’ll enjoy the time chasing each other around just as much when the time comes.
We also went for a walk around Como Lake (Lake Como?? Not sure which it is…) and saw a lot of animals. There were squirrels and ducks…and then we saw this guy perched in the tree. It’s so rare to just happen to see a bald eagle – it was fun to show it to Sophia.
We thought that was going to be the most exciting thing we saw on our walk until we saw a real monkey for a walk with his owner. They were holding hands and strolling along! The monkey’s name was Mike, but Sophia kept calling him George Monkey, which is what she calls Curious George.
I’m pretty sure we won’t see anything that cool on any of our future walks. Then again, we never expected to run into a monkey either.
